We have skipped a bit of the Danube.
We don't care. We noticed most of the cycle path up the next bit was on road. We like a bit of scenery and/or something other than just cycling.
We originally decided the free aire at Petersworth was our point of travel. That was when skipping a bit wasn't in the plan.
But we had to do a lidls shop en route and one was located with half a dozen parking spaces that I could do some french parking in.
Walnut ice cream has been 2.59 and I wanted some more but 2 kilos of paprika chicken kept calling us as well. Reckoning that's 3 nights meals and we got some bargain basement marinaded running out of date chicken for 2 euros. But we have some bratwurst to mix up our diet and we did have sardines last week.
Diesel was next on the agenda and it was cat and mouse with prices. Is it cheaper here or down the road? Time of day makes a difference in Germany.
We haven't seen anything cheaper than 151.9 so when we had held off we were well chuffed with it. But prior to finding it we saw a 152.9 that we were so committed to that I turned round to get it but what can only be described as a flot blocker got his transit in the left hand filling point and took out 10 jerry cans whilst we are sat behind him and there was no reason why he couldn't take the next pump up. He got a hoot as I exited (not quite on fumes as still had 86 miles to go)
When we spotted our 151 I couldn't get in to fill up the way we were driving but a classy (I say so) manouvre saw us turn round behind a truck and I said to the wife "watch him pull in and do the same" next thing his indicator goes on and pulls in on the left hand filling tanks but notices us and takes the forward one. Passenger gets out and uses the provided squeegees to clean windscreen and I start gesticulating to the wife who promptly points out her height and now she fills up with diesel whilst I m cleaning windscreen and Sahara sand from the bonnet. But we get to Donauworth. Advertised as free but 7.50 and we think it is free electric and water and dump.
It's a car park. Nothing special but 8 metres from Danube and crawling distance to town.
We haven't bothered plugging in because last might I noticed the maximum amount of solar was 80 watts. So popped up through the roof vent to check connections which were fine but the Sahara sand may have been having an effect. 177 watts after a clean last night equates to 200 ah of battery but we still keep freeloading the bike battery chargers (whilst drinking beer)
The Danube didn't butter the parsnips today. The route was still roads so we detoured to nowhere in particular and clocked up 50 Kms of farmland with some hideous chalk "paths"
We saw a lot of the last thing which we think advertises what is available in the village. Eg butcher.
Then we found the oldest Roman road north of Venice from the time of Augusta. This is the rotten part of the road. How they mark it up as a cycle path is beyond me. Just loose chalk
We have been in prime deer and hare territory but not seen any when we came across 30+ storks in a field
And then we saw Bambi lying in our road.
Baby Bambi. We stayed q we got the camera to zoom
Then got closer and obvious it was injured as it hobbled to the verge
A few more wrong turns saw us bypass every watering hole on our rest day and not a lot of interesting stuff
We got to Donauworth and walked round a bit of the promenade and town which has enticed us to stay tomorrow
Then located a ladestation which is a locking point for e bikes and if you take your charger you lock that in the top bit and 2 electric points inside.
We go off and have a beer and return with energised bikes.
Problem here was the beer was 4.40 and we like 3.20 beer !!
