Cycling in from the museum aire (2 more aires) we located yet another market and stocked up on tomatoes by just selecting a couple of each variety.
A caravan male hairdresser was set up. He had quite a queue. Very pleasing walk round the market and loads of motorbikes but still a few touristy e bikes.
We made our way to the church in the town
Then followed a short steep tarmac path which led to someone s gate but turning right was the long relatively steep, occasionally slippy, rugged path up to the overlooking Notre Dame de roc where villagers took refuge from the attacking moors centuries ago. They built the church as a rememberable.
Luckily there are benches appropriately spaced out. Without using them you are looking at 25 minutes. We decided very early morning (1030) but rain would adjust that view as the stones could be slippy. Good shoes required. But definitely worth the effort. If you're in castellane and have half an opportunity, do it. The last thing expected was working water up there !
Unfortunately some works were ongoing and couldn't enter the church or sign the book which I have been told about.
But you're just going for the history and views really, and because it's there !
Back to the town and meandering round the inner shops with narrow alleys brought pleasing views. The town only has 1500 residents !
