In need of doing something in the afternoon a lake with nearby waterfall was spotted from our book "Wild Swimming in France" so we headed from le Thoronet across undulating but not debilitating roads through a sea of vineyards, some picked, some prepared to be picked.
Carcès was just a short detour of a km or so and it had lovely painted walls on a couple of buildings including where they make the wine as you could smell the grapes in passing. One main street but still worthy.
Our aim was this place https://maps.app.goo.gl/6m3DGWJvn55879dF8 which looked like it was worth some effort. Unfortunately we cycled past it which was a tad annoying especially as there were no signs. But I spotted another one on the map. Again no signs so we cycled back via Thoronet l'abbaye which was well attended going by their car park, but probably having to pay to enter so not for us.
The reservoir was damned near Carcès and it is a bit back and beyond without many cars. Utterly surprised to hear Elvis belting out a tune at la guingette and a couple of coaches for an afternoon dance in the middle of nowhere.
The lake was glaringly obviously low and upon more research the waterfall may have dried up this time of year
