Varying reports from S4s and camper contact including being ushered off in the morning made us think about coming here but we plumped for Lacoste.
Decisions then had to be made about whether to cycle here or not but we gambled and drove the 6kms.
No gamble at all. As you approach there is a football pitch on the left and a little higher is an aire sign on the left with free parking for 72 hours with wonderful views across the cavalon valley to Ventoux.
Services are supposed to be expensive but there is a drive over drain for grey. There's about 7 spaces and 4 have been taken in late August.
At the bottom of the hill is the disused railway line voie verte de cavalon running to past Apt and to Cavaillon.
On the other side of Bonnieux are a couple of chateaus which were in "A Good Year" and Eydins is also a French Passion site so we may visit on a bike or in the motorhome and get a supply or 2 and hopefully some photos. (I do like that film).
The town is steep and cobbly and very pretty and is a "Beaux village" but to us, Lacoste is nicer in prettiness terms. The church right at the top was not open due to works but there is a nice dedicated viewpoint just below and we had our first purchased beer on a verandah bar overlooking the valley at 3.80.euros for 25cl of Heineken. We didn't have a second one !
There is a museum of boulangerie here and at the bottom of the hill is point Julien or the cave de bonnieux (both about 6 kms)
Really good stopover and town.
We went off on the voie vert today but having previously forgotten our keys to our Bosch batteries on the bikes and no solar we have had to improvise with how we abstract free electricity.
There is a free charging system for Bosch batteries and bonnieux is one of the many places that provide this. (In a locker) But the suave part of suavecarve was in full tour mode today and the lovely Lady at the TO has allowed us to lean our bikes against the lockers and charge them up for us.
We also visited one of the chateaus used in the filming of a good year and passed the other one. I must really like the film as 3 bottles of chateau de Les Eydins were bought for over 30 euros !
