Miserable weather yet again today so a nearby cable car was deemed the best option as we may get above clouds was our thinking and the webcams of early morning only enhanced this cunning plan.
We saw a cloud coming so set off away from it as it would have no hope, in my mind, of catching up with our scooter.
Unfortunately we set off 2 minutes too late and I was wrong about the speed of our scooter.
The road up to Bad Kleinkirchheim was wet, steep, slippery, full of traffic wanting to overtake us but we made it having followed the torrent of a river uphill.
We were put at ease as we saw 2 Billas en route to the tinned herring lunch would be substituted for 2 hot burgers.
Once we got up the hill to the bottom of the mountain we were aware the rodenbahl or summer luge was closed for the day but we were never going on it as it is 17 euros each for a 2 person toboggan.
Off to present our KC instead of 29.50 for the ride to the top in telecabin we were wondering what it would be like at the top through the clouds having left the bottom at 9.5 degrees
We soon found out.
Visibility was somewhat obscured then it had obviously been snowing going by fresh footprints in the snow.
Luckily balaclavas and motorbike gear was left on and a short walk to the top of the mountain where exchange of cameras took place with an equally cold German couple and we went to go down only to see the temperature up the top on June 13th.
There was a sauna type hut which has a temperature of 30 degrees that you can sit in and watch the views but only if you know how to open it. We failed.
There is a station halfway up (and down) so we popped off there and some Austrian folk group were singing about Heidi to a packed and attentive audience but there was a grill going outside the other hut so asked them what they were cooking and they showed us the ready bratwurst. I nearly ordered 2 but luckily Paula asked how much and it was 14.90 each. We thanked them for their time and carried on down to Billa where we got a burger for 20% of that price.
