There is an aire at Avignon. Probably 15 minutes walk to the citadel. But it's 11 euros !
She wanted an e bike so she gets to use it !
The 20 km flat cycle from the free aire at Bedarrides was where we attacked Avignon from.
Started the day with a puncture on the wheel of Paula's bike that was making horrible noises yesterday.
After a change of inner tube all appears well.
Yesterday we followed the pink cycle route towards Avignon. Error !
Take note of the far far better route and just head south on the via rhona.
Beautiful track
And you get to Avignon.
Last time we were here it was the height of summer and students were selling theatre tickets and performing dance in the streets. It was good for 5 minutes but then with 40c heat it became annoying.
This time in mid September it was pleasurable walk.
It's a huge walled town 4.3 km walk/cycle round it with a palace inside that you have to pay to enter so no pics.
With the cathedral next door
But the palace has gardens and in the vast majority of cases including Versailles and Fontainebleau you don't have to pay for them. These gardens aren't a sniff on those 2 but worthy of a look and they are high for views across to Ventoux if the clouds aren't in the way.
Coming down
For a beer at the PMU which is opposite the entrance for vehicles to hotel d'europe so we got views of top motors being loaded by valets. This was obviously after our dirty kebab we are in front of the opera house on a park bench.
A quick skirt round the outside revealed they have teams here (not inside the walls. And a series of water mills where the water must run underneath the city apart from this 100 m section
Then home via the half bridge
