By the time we get to summer, things may have changed anywayWhat will I be allowed to take into Spain (France) etc this summer? Has anything changed this year? Argentinian Corned beef, Condensed Milk, Danish Bacon etc
On our first trip to Spain last year it was difficult to find bacon like we have at home. We did find an ok bacon but we tended to have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast.I did think about putting bacon in the freezer but undecided as I think its not allowedI'm surprised that no one is is desperate for bacon over there. A typical British bacon sandwich is difficult to find over there.
You can buy British bacon at Benidorm Iceland, and also I bet the new Lidl will sell it because the old one at Albir nearby did.On our first trip to Spain last year it was difficult to find bacon like we have at home. Oh thank you will remember thatYou can buy British bacon at Benidorm Iceland, and also I bet the new Lidl will sell it because the old one at Albir nearby did.
We also take raw dog food and cans of Akela. France is terrible for decent dog food.Never checked for meat either way, we always take some raw dog food to get us going, it's not always easy to find. Otherwise we take what's left in the fridge at home.
Except for wine that is!No one checks but don't bring anything back to the UK, New rules in place due to foot & mouth on the continent.
Good job I don't want to bring any foreign food back thenIrrespective of whether you're likely to get checked or not, there's a reason for the ban on bringing stuff back into the UK.
Those with memories might remember the images of thousands of cattle being burned from the last foot & mouth episode.
It's not about 'getting caught' or not. It's about protecting our livestock and our farmers.
While the foot and mouth ban only applies to goods you bring back to the UK, there is also a ban on taking meat and dairy products into the EU since Britain left it.
The foot and mouth ban means you can't bring pork, beef, lamb, mutton, goat, venison and any products containing these (sandwiches, sausages, pies...) into the UK, nor can you bring dairy products (including butter, yoghurt, cheese..) back.
You can still bring chicken, duck and goose and any products containing these into the UK if you wish.
The advantage of being an island is that we have a better chance of stopping foot and mouth getting into the UK, but it needs people to respect the rules and not to think that it's OK for them to bring some cheese back because it's unlikely they'll get searched.
It's likely the ban will only last a few months so please be patient and enjoy eating the banned products while you're abroad but please leave them there.
Médor et Compagnie have quite a lot of stores across France & usually sell raw.We also take raw dog food and cans of Akela. France is terrible for decent dog food.
Foot and Mouth restrictions currently in Force..On a slightly different note, we came through Newhaven this morning. EVERY VAN WAS BEING STOPPED AND ASKED ABOUT FOOD, ALL MEAT AND DAIRY BEING CONFISCATED, REGARDLESS OF ORIGIN. Fortunately we had the message in advance thanks to this forum last week and had nothing to confiscate except 1/2 a pint of milk!
Wow! Where can I get Marmite sausagesWhen we go to France we take decent food. Marmite sausages and Lamb and mint burgers from our local butcher.
Also genuine Cornish pasties from would you believe “Cornwall”.
Obviously Tetley tea bags. Mint sauce.
Not all for us but to share and impress the locals.![]()
Not sure which bit of Ireland you're in, but my understanding is that the rules in Northern Ireland are slightly different to the UK and the ROIlets all just obey the rules until then
Why take anything at all - most of what you want is available sur-le-continent and if the foot and mouth restrictions remain in place you'll need to be ready to dirtch any leftovers before you come back? Some checks are made, so shop abroad, there are supermarkets everywhere. You can take food for a special diet, such as gluten free.
