Knives

I'm gonna say it. Something you said twenty three years ago, still makes you feel you need to apologise again?

Why?
Why not? I found it embarrassing and know others were really uncomfortable. Should one of them be on Fun and read this thread reading is likely to stir u the memory, and the discomfort. I am apologising again simply for bringing it back to the surface of their memory. Surely being considerate of others feelings to, and making an apology IF they read this, should not attract criticism? Maybe it is just me, but I hate to think of anything I do or say making anyone uncomfortable?

I've been pulled up twice with a 12 gauge shotgun and 250 cartridges in my boot with absolutely no problems (after the obvious initial "oh, really?" when asking what's in the boot and me telling them). Showed my licence, confirmed I was on my way home from shooting and on my merry way.

You must look suspicious - I’ve yet to be tugged by the rozzers, (or rozzerettes if you must), when out and about on the King’s Highway on this or another similarly equipped outfit!

the same happened to my eldest bro-in-laws eldest son who is a carpet fitter.

Really, can you point to the evidence that this actually happened or how and where you found out about it, I would be interested to know.
As above ,I confirmed that it does happen in post#53 to my bro in laws eldest son when fitting carpets in an embassy in London. Went out to one of the vans to get a 100 pack of Stanley hook blades & was loading the knife when stopped.
When 9 other similarly equipped men appeared to discuss the situation it was then decided that it "wasn't a problem but might be better done inside"
On another occasion same son was stopped on returning to his van & arrested for possession of same said Stanley knives that were lying ,one on the front seat & second one on the dashboard. That didn't get anywhere either.

For over 10 years I bought & sold at car boots ,in the UK, & rastros here in Spain stopping only around 2022.
Amongst other things I cannot pass up a decent machete or any type of axe. I used to be able to buy plenty in the south west & out in the sticks in essex, suffolk & Norfolk . I regularly travelled to the Uk & back with boxes of them. It would never even have occurred to me to mention them if I was asked "have you any knives?" Another you ysed to get lots of in the south west was gin traps. By all accounts upon asking about the dearth of all the above for sale it is because they are apparently banned in the UK & not allowed to be sold?

I could imagine going through the electric vehicle scanner in Morocco with that lot in the garage!

Love it!!

To be fair, they were 3 years apart, but the reactions were exactly the same, first surprise and then absolutely fine (and I can't deny looking suspicious).

My new van comes with what they refer to as their Hymer "Tool kit" 🤔.... containing Fiskars axe, hunting knife & a folding shovel..... more like The Hills have Eyes Tool kit! 😲
I'm bound to get arrested with this lot!

That’s exactly the kind of kit that I have fitted ours out with - a decent Gränsfors Bruk axe instead of a plastic fantastic one though.

Not at all. But as the contents of a vehicle on a public highway are regarded in law as being in a public place, an over- enthusiastic copper may take a dim view.
More likely a dim copper taking an over enthusiastic view

I think everyone that has contributed to the "Boys in blue" debate/moshpit need to understand they are ruining the thread. The Op wants to find specific information. It's annoying when people take the thread in a different direction. Not just for the Op but for the readers trying to learn too.

I writing this as people need know for future posts the forum is about Motorhomes and campervans not someone's BORING superfluous story.

Seeing that comment I realised that we took an axe through the Morocco scanner last time we went :-) I suspect Morocco has different concerns than the UK police.

That’s quite a compact serial killer kit - kill, dismember, bury, rinse, repeat.

What year model is your van?

I keep my old work knife in the cutlery drawer, it's only for peeling vegetables.

All the diversions in this thread are better and less boring than this one. Threads go where they go.. if you find that boring we have developed an extensive ignore system for you to use.

To be pedantic, I thought they were made by Wilkinsons from a design by Fairbairn & Sykes? 🙂

When I was working, I always had a leatherman on my belt. I had one on my belt last week whilst doing some work to connect the drain on the pitch.

I’ve always got a Dolphin knife in my work trousers on display.

I might not need it but it’s my little kick back at the establishment 😊

I see no problems with "Boys in Blue", it is a well known expression not intended to offend anyone.

We also cannot use thin blue line as it may offend the fatties amongst us :p :D :moon2:
Na not me Gromett, I'm fat... If I sunbathe on a beach some do gooder always rings Greenpeace! :dance2:
