Better off having the dog cremated - wild animals will smell the dead dog's remains and dig it up. My wife always reminds me of the time "Copper" their failed Police Alsatian dug up their recently expired Jack Russell that they had buried in the garden.

Not really what you want!

Our dog died whilst in the south of France, it was very difficult to find a vet that would take her for cremation or proper disposal.
It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had to deal with.
Fortunately we have friends that live in central France who offered to bury her in their garden. She was wrapped up in a sheet and driven there the next day, we can now pay our respects each time we visit.
And yes you can get a refund on the ferry or tunnel.

I believe in Spain you can get a cremation done then you can bring back a casket.(y)(y)
