A few weeks ago some one suggested that we MF could have an informal meet at the forthcoming Practical Motorhome/Caravan rally at the above camp site in North Devon. First of all it is open to everybody you do not have to subscribe to those mags. We went a couple of years ago and it was a brilliant weekend. It was suggested that we stayed in field no5.

I think I am right in saying the cost is £48 for the four nights which includes electric, if you want to stay each side of those dates it's £5 pn I/c Electric.

We have booked in field no5 hope to see some more "funsters" there.

According to Practical Caravans blurb its £45 not £48 for the stay. Which is it???????

Was £48 (4 nights with EHU) when I rang Stowford a few weeks ago & as it was £45 last year think that the magazine has it wrong. Lots of entertainment laid on too so very good value especially for that area at that time of the year:xsmile:

Is this Stowford near Roadford Lake between Launceston and Okehampton or is it really in North Devon ?

Bump - for Funsters asking about May Bank Holiday rallies :)

Very excited, have just booked this, we are staying 5 nights so that it includes my birthday. Nick retires on 29 th April so this will kick things off nicely, thanks Colyboy. We got our new vehicle registration yesterday, get van on the 6th march so off we go. Now to book Malvern as we delayed too long last year and were not in the fun field.

It is £48 for 3 nights and then £5 per extra night, includes EHU, all weather pitch. Indoor pool is £1.60 per swim for adults. I thought the extra nights for £5 were just the thursday and monday night but in fact seems its any extra ones so we are staying the monday and tuesday as well. We are in field 5 . Sounds very nice.

It was great value rally last year & good fun but would have been even better with Funsters as mostly caravanners & not many of them are as friendly! Last year the extra nights at £5 each including EHU were limited to 7 nights on each side of the rally but when I rang earlier this year they said they were not putting a limit on it :D Would make a great base camp in Devon for anyone fulltiming or planning a long break. Only downsides are that over the bank holiday weekend the indoor pool will be busy with kids (fine if you are staying longer), the bar prices are not cheap, there is no bus stop or organised transport, road access is good via Braunton but other routes are not so motorhome friendly plus watch out for narrow entry & exit points at Stowford & overgrown road verges at that time of the year. Don't let that put you off though as it is a big green pleasant site with lots going on especially with the rally, great facilities & a bargain price (y) The site has excellent facilities including an indoor pool, several bars & function areas, restaurant, fish & chips takeaway, accessories shop, caravan & campervan sales plus a huge marquee for the magazine rally. Last year the rally fee included a basic BBQ, cream tea & 2 lots of evening entertainment each night as well as events during the day too. Anyone can book this rally - you don't need to subscribe to the magazines.See http://stowford.co.uk/motorhome-pitches-north-devon/. See last years rally details here http://www.practicalcaravan.com/blog/29531-bank-holiday-fun-at-practical-caravans-reader-rally . Call Stowford to book the "Practical Caravan & Motorhome Rally" on 01271 828004 & if you want to be near other Funsters then request Field 5 as this is where they have the most hardstandings. Field 5 has the newest toilet & shower block & a great rural view but even the hardstandings are sloping in places so you will need to take ramps. Once booked it would good if you can post on here with your names so Colyboy, Carolyn & any other Funsters going will know who to look out for. Not definite yet but hope we can come along & join in too :)

this is a maybe for me.
Glad you are tempted but if you do decide to book don't leave it too late as although this rally does have a large number of spaces it does normally get fully booked!

Looks like a good weekend will look at website and hopefully book up .

Bump - so anyone looking for a good value break in Devon can have the chance to book before it gets all booked up.

How far are the beaches away and are there bus routes close rather than using mh with many thanks

There are no bus stops nearby but not that far to nearest large seaside town Ilfracombe (6.5miles) & small but pleasant Combe Martin (4miles) so shared taxi might not be too dear. There is an excellent huge surfing beach at Woolacombe (8.5 miles) with campsites (Twitchen Park used to be ok) - ideal before or after rally. Can park next to the beach at Woolacombe but sure to be expensive & full with surfers early each day over the bank holiday weekend. The smaller surfing beach at Croyde Bay (12 miles) is great but again better as less busy either side of the bank holiday weekend. Stowford can organise a hire car locally if required which could be a good option if again a few people club together. It is, however, possible to be entertained or find things to do on site at this rally all day & night - organised (mostly caravan & motorhome related) events by the Practical Caravan & Motorhome magazine organisers & entertainment day & night, swimming, pool tables in bars, large green site to walk around surrounded by fields, campervan & caravan sales, camping accessories shop, woodland walk (steep so need to be fit), sports field, horse riding, pitch and putt, crazy golf etc...
