As per the title.
Decided we are going next December for a few weeks. Reading the threads about the logistics of getting there. Vehicle Insurance will be sorted by LV for a small premium.
Travel insurance sorted through Nationwide, they cover Morocco.
Not sure about breakdown insurance yet.
We are not sure about what is required to get the pooch there. She will have a new 3 year rabies vaccination (entered into her current EU passport) which will be administered sometime in June when we go to France, Belgium or Spain. (Not sure which one we will go for as we definitely want a 3 year validation). UK vaccinations will be up to date . Can anyone confirm that it is a similar situation that applies when travelling to Norway? i.e. Not in the "club" so worm treatment and health check prior to entering. What requirements when returning to Spain? Currently catching up with Jim and Lyn's travel blog in Morocco which is very interesting and informative and certainly whets the appetite.
Many thanks

Big Thanks to Kath Cross for this informative post and video for folks to use as a guide on how to bring your beloved furry friends with you on the ferry from EU.
📌
If you are wishing to travel to Morocco by ferry
🚢
from the EU with your pet dog or cat
🐶
🐱
there are some processes you must complete before you travel to protect your pet from rabies and make it possible to leave Morocco and re-enter the EU without your pet requiring quarantine.
First your pet MUST have a valid microchip and receive a rabies vaccination and an EU pet passport
📓
, then after 30 days, a blood test
💉
needs to be taken for serology, this test ensures your pet’s rabies antibodies are high enough to give protection from rabies. Serology results
📉
have a turnaround of around 14-21 days
⏱️
and once complete you will be issued with a certificate.
Once rabies serology and paperwork are in place, a health check
🩺
must take place just before the crossing into Morocco
🇲🇦
🚢
so that an animal export certificate
📄
can be issued. If travelling from Algeciras, there are vets at the port who can complete the Official Health Certificate, allowing you to receive your animal export certificate at the port.

means that UK serology results are no longer accepted at Spanish ports, and Spanish vets have been instructed not to enter UK rabies jabs into EU pet passports. Many Spanish vets now insist on an EU rabies vaccine, then wait 30 days, then serology bloods, which means around 50 days before travel, but it’s worth shopping around as some vets will take serology bloods based on your UK rabies, then give the EU vaccine, lowering the wait to 14-21 days. You cannot cross into Morocco using a UK Animal Health Certificate.

Interesting - thanks. So if you're British & you've an EU per passport with an EU administered rabies jab are the Spanish ok getting in & out if you follow their procedures?

Still trying to understand what we have to do.
Our dog has a microchip. She has an EU passport ( she has already been into the EU five times) which details current (UK) rabies vaccine. She will have a new rabies vaccination administered in June this year and that will be carried out in the EU to ensure validation of her EU (non-UK) passport. As she will be having an EU administered vaccine does this negate the need for seriological tests as in effect it is a "continuation" of protection? (With the old UK passport there was no requirement to have seriological tests again provided the vaccine was administered within the appropriate timescale). Or is that the time we have another test to establish antibodies against rabies and then just require the health check in Spain to produce the Official Health Certificate and the production of an animal export certificate before travel to Morocco? Or does she have to have another injection, regardless, nearer to our journey to Morocco? Sorry to be a pain but I need to understand fully to ensure she has the correct amount of injections rather than too many and we do not get a problem.

With our previous dog, provided we had the vaccination before the end of the prescribed time i.e. no later than the last day of third year, there was no need for further tests. If the injection was late then the whole process had to be followed again.
I want to avoid her having a rabies injection in June (which we need to keep her passport validated) and then another in December prior to travelling to Morocco.
As I say, unsure.

Cant help with the dog situation sorry but I wouldnt be too concerned about Breakdown Insurance, unless its comfortmatic they can probably fix it and it will be cheaper than the equivalent in UK or EU.

Most years there have been fairly comprehensive Morocco threads that are worthwhile from an info point of view, this is the most recent.

So, we have EU pet passports for both our dogs and both obviously have their rabies vaccines up to date. Does this mean that all that we will need to do before entering Morocco is to get the serology test and health certificate to show on entry which based on the above can take a couple of weeks to come through?

The information I have been given is as follows:-
EU pet passport.
Ensure rabies vaccination is up to date and was carried out in the EU and is correctly entered on the pet passport.
You could then, if you wanted to save time, have a seriological (spelling) test carried out in the EU and use that result to take to a Spanish vet later in the year (mainly at Tarifa prior to catching the ferry to Tangiers) who will then complete the health and "export" paperwork for the dog/cat/ferret. This will mean there will be no delays.
The important things to be aware of are that the Spanish vets will not issue the paperwork to travel for the animal IF you have taken your pet out of the UK on the (bloody expensive!!) AHC. In this instance you (the pet) will have to obtain an EU passport, have another rabies jab in Spain and then wait the relevant time for the test (approx 30 days) and then the Spanish vet will issue the travel documents.
I hope this is clear.

Thank you!

Both dogs have Eu passports and up to date jabs and sounds like serology test is reasonably quick prior to leaving and we could get it done as soon as we get to Spain to save time
