I'd assumed that being a high rabies country it would be easy to just walk into a hospital for a rabies jab if you had been bitten or scratched.
A young couple on Utube thewholeworldornothing had a real job sourcing rabies and tetanus jabs for this young daughter after a cat attacked her in Fez. Bit of an eye opener!

After doing a bit of research and The Dotties advice we had rabies jabs before going to South Africa a couple of years ago.

We had to pay but it’s a small price compared to what can happen.

We went to a low risk area as well.

It's made us think about it that's for sure.

I think it lasts 25 years and figured that might just about see me out 😊

Not worth the risk considering rabies is spread far and wide in Europe as well.

Not many people think it’s so close to home.

I’m afraid it only lasts 3 years. Even if you’ve had the rabies vaccine and get bitten by a suspect dog (or cat) you still need post exposure treatment. There’s a world shortage of the immunoglobulin that they give you immediately. They also give you 3 more doses of the vaccine. When we were supposed to visit darling daughter in Bangladesh, cancelled due to bloody Covid, we paid for the vaccine as were supposed to be doing a fair bit of travelling out and about. Even there you could only get the jab if you got bitten in Dhaka and Sylhet. Between 2000 and 2,500 deaths per year there still.
