Downsides:

SprintShift robotised manual is the automatic
No cab air conditioning (kits available)
Brakes can be a bit scary
Euro III

But for the gearbox, I’d consider it. Lot of German motorhome for not much money. Especially when you consider how much people are asking for self-builds.

I'd like that with a more modern interior. But I guess at 24 grand you could refurb the interior and still have spent under 30?

I bought ours, 2001 reg, 3 years old with 8,000 miles on the clock, in 2004.

Same gearbox, aftermarket cab a/c.

I paid £29,000 for it. Traded it to a dealer (the then Dudleys) 5 years later with 48,000 miles on for £28,750.

Drove all over western Europe in it. From just below the arctic circle in winter, down to salobreña and Malaga.

I even fitted a real 3kg load washing machine over the rear axle.

It’s a big but though, gearbox.

Maybe not up to the chassis weight for a kangaroo gearbox designed for a small coupe. Hence why the train was never available as an option on the 6 series chassis.

Even the 616 chassis was not able to tow more than 750kg trailers !.

But If well cared for and not hammered, maybe the sprintshift would be ok. The final drive on the 416cdi is high revving and well suited to hill climbs . But 65 mph is close to 3,000 rpm
