Morocco Ferry starting tonight 18.04.2022. Good news as normal sailings now started :)
More than 300 travelers will embark tonight on the Almería-Nador ferry with their vehicles

More than 300 passengers and more than 100 will embark tonight on the Wasa Express ferry, from the Baleària shipping company, which will carry out the service between Almería and Nador. It will be the first trip between the Port of Almería and that of the Moroccan city in which the passengers will do it with their own cars.

In this way, according to the president of the Port Authority of Almería, Jesús Caicedo, the activity in the movement of passengers between Almería and North Africa is normalized: "Last November the service with the Algerian ports of Ghazaouet and Oran, last week the service with Nador was restored, although only for passengers without vehicles, and today, Monday, it is completely normalized, since travelers can board with their cars.

On the Nador-Almería route, next Wednesday the 20th, the first travelers with their vehicles from the Moroccan city will also arrive on the Baleària ferry.

With the total restoration of the service between Almería and North Africa, the president of the APA trusts that this year Operation Crossing the Strait can be carried out with total normality, after two years canceled due to the closure of the maritime borders of Algeria and Morocco for the movement of passengers.

Nador accounts for 50% of passenger traffic
In 2019, the last year before the pandemic and the closure of the Moroccan and Algerian borders, more than 950,000 passengers passed through the Port of Almería. Of this passage, the Port of Nador accounted for more than 50% of the movement of travelers leaving and arriving at the Almeria dock: a total of 507,620 people traveled. 333,367 passengers traveled on the ferries linking Almería and Melilla, 35% of the total. As for the Algerian ports, between Almería and Oran more than 65,200 passengers moved (6.8%), while the relationship with Ghazaouet exceeded 45,400 passengers (4.7%).

In 2021, the year in which Morocco kept its borders closed and in which the Algerian government reopened them in mid-November, 70,509 travelers passed through the Almería Maritime Station. Of this figure, 56% traveled between Almería and Melilla (more than 39,500). With the Algerian ports, the movement of passengers exceeded 13,000 (almost 19%), a figure registered practically as of November 14. More than 17,600 passengers traveled on the ferries that connect Almería and Nador last year, 25% of the total number of travelers who passed through the Port of Almería. Practically all of these travelers were freight truck drivers, since, until the reopening of the Moroccan borders, they were the only people authorized to enter Morocco by sea.
