An example of what can be done with a Kindle which you can't with a book.

We were on a coach in Turkey having just visited the tomb of Mevlana in Konya. Our guide said that to appreciate what Mevlana was all about you needed to read his 6 volume book of 'verses'. He was quite amazed that within a couple of minutes I had downloaded the entire work, in English, from Amazon at a total cost of £1.43. Light reading on the coach :thumb:.
Obviously out of copyright (he's been dead for 800 years) hence so cheap, but a printed version would be hard to find and expensive.

Absolutely love mine! I never thought I would give up books completely as I love the feel and smell of the real thing but the convenience and having so many books at my fingertips at any time is priceless.

I also love that I can instantly look up any word that I do not know the meaning of and search for something at any time too, rather than having to flick through endless pages.

resorting to name calling is a sign of defeat JJ ..

enjoy your Kindle and pies.. I'll buy proper books and eat fresh thanks.. :winky:

PS.. can you use a Kindle under a wonky table leg ?

hmm thought not .. :restmycase:

My legal people have been through the post with a fine tooth comb, Jim, and assure me that no "name calling" is contained with in it what so ever.. just two questions... :winky:

They then went through the site rules with the same comb and they are sure none have been broken... :winky:

However they advised me to concede completely to your point re the wonky table leg. An excellent point and very well made. :thumb:

Of course I don't use paper/books for wonky table legs as I have a lot of empty FB pie tins I can use... ::bigsmile:

just my opinion. but then, I don't need to eat dog to know I don't want to.

I understand the benefits for travelling , space and payload saving, plus the benefit of being able to download abroad..

[HI]It's a bit like smart phones, I have one but it's a waste of time, I don't use it or see a use for most of it's features[/HI]... again, great for travelling or if you like to pose and have the latest gadget ...

[HI]
Seems to me people buy gadgets then look for a use for them and try to justify the cost ... rather than heaving a need for it. Cart before horse.
[/HI]
Each to their own.. and if it keeps Amazons coffers full .. can't be a bad thing.

Seems like a pretty good self analysis Jim:RollEyes:

guilty as charged ... a lesson learned and not forgotten.. it was definitely a costly mistake.

Can't wait for the contract to end in Aug.. then it's goodbye .. I don't need any mobile, far less a smart assed one.. :roflmto:

I don't need an iPad, Kindle or smart phone simply because I have no use for them.. that doesn't make them wrong .. as I said, I can't think of a reason to buy a Kindle.. an honest answer.. just as I can't find a reason for owning a smart phone.

you have very smart legal eagles in your team .. my team have advised me that your so called questions were in fact implied slurs on my good name and reputation ..

In due course I shall be making formal representation to our dear leader demanding he extract an apology and have you banished to the land where Kindles and FB pies are banned.

Very well thank you, and she speaks very highly of you, too.

Re wonky table legs a) I have a man to mend things like that and b) in an emergency I could take the faux leather cover off my K and stick that under said leg, either single or double, depending on exact extent of said wonkiness. If I didn't have a K, of course, I wouldn't be able to do that .......

I agree Jim. Nothing like turning the first page in a new book and the satisfaction of seeing how far into it you've got.
I should think kindles are like computer monitors and give you a headache after a while.

Computers give me a headache, not so Kindle as the screen isnt back lit and the font is clearer.

Colouring in books, Gerry?
Not available for Kindle.

Oor Wullie and The Broons: there are some books with no substitute.

Wouldnt be without books, but for convenience I wouldnt be without my Kindle.
Different strokes / horses for courses?

Another view. I got rid of Kindle because I don't read books that much and it didn't do anything else well, so went to Android Tablet. Not so much as a reader but as a computer.

Now it might not be as good in sunlight ( can't think why you'd want to do much reading in sunlight ) but otherwise I really like having a load more text on screen.

Looks like Amazon also got the message with their specialised Android tablet out. With what is on the market I would not touch one, there are much better Android tablets out there and cheaper.
