We are in Greece considering whether to get the ferry to italy or drive back through Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia and slovenia. Has anyone does this route and do you have any suggestions for where to stop? We have 5 and 3 yo daughters so can't do any mega drives and we are 13.75m including trailer so access can be an issue for us. I don't know anything about these countries (other than people saying croatia and slovenia beautiful) so any suggestions gratefully received. Thank you

A good ferry deal to Venice or Trieste would probably be the cheapest option if you get a good price and camping on board. Overland is the most interesting. I've done both, You will need a green card for Albania and Bosnia although you will be unaware of the Bosnia border usually if you stick to the Adriatic Highway. Best not leave that highway in Albania. Overnights are easy to find on Campercontact and Campingcarinfos. You can also go through FYROM (Macedonia) although it is even more difficult to find an insurance company to give you a green card for there, and Serbia.

The Montenegro and Croatian coasts are indeed beautiful and Slovenia (essentially and Alpine country) is as well. You will need a vignette in Slovenia that you can buy at the border. You can also buy insurance at the borders for all the other countries as well (20-50 euros per country) although they are usually 3rd party only.

Thanks Dick. We would need to avoid Albania and monte negro because we aren't happy with third party insurance especially with the kids. The ferry to venice will be €750 because we are so big which is why we are trying to find out about the Bulgaria Serbia croatia route.

Serbia is fine cant speak for Bugaria sorry but I've been told its straight forward. might be worth emailing your insurance company re green card which will give you full insurance.
