Just driving down to Austria from Germany and fancy a few days in Czech Republic.

Trying to find out about toll issues and it seems a little unclear as to whether we can just drive over the border and buy toll-pass of some kind.

We are plated 3.8tonne so I would guess this changes things from those under 3.5.

Will drive towards the border this evening but any help/advice welcome.

Thanks

Martin

I’m pretty sure an Austrian petrol station near the border will know & have anything you will need to buy just like those in Germany for entering Austria. Good luck

Are you going into Poland?

If so over 3.5t you have to register for the e-Toll. System. It is different from the box and gantry system of most countries, as it uses GPS to track you, not only on M/Ways but many main roads. You have to switch the system on via any GPS-enabled device, e.g mobile phone.

If your MH looks as though you could be under 3500kg you might get away with it, but we cannot because we are registered in Poland. It costs us about £30 to do the 450km from home to the German border at Gorlitz on A4.

I think we won't bother with Poland this time, looks a tad complicated🥺

Came over from UK a week ago and have been in Berlin seeing our eldest. Weather was OK there managed to dodge the Showers.

Currently parked up at Berzdorfer See Stellplatz and looking at travelling South through Czech Republic.

If the poor weather continues I think we will blast further south into Italy.

Just need to understand what we need to do to drive an over 3.5 tonne mh into Czech Republic.

Looking at the Czech toll maps it looks like we could get through mostly without paying tolls, although we will have a look at getting a toll pass when/if we go through Czech Republic.

Hmm we went through this process about 8 weeks ago. Enclosed is an email that we received from the Toll Organisation. Check out the 2 links, there is a map and a list of distribution points. Beware not all exist though! You only find out when you get there and find that the service area is closed or being dug up! You will need your registrations document and if you have you engine classification that also helps. Email reply from the Toll company. DOn't hesitate to phone them up they speak english and will help. It is not as slick as Austria where they ahve the system of pat to releive you of lots of Euro's!

Dear Mr Jones,

on behalf of Ředitelství silnic a dálnic ČR, the operator of the Electronic Toll System, we are responding to your inquiry dated 7 June 2023 concerning distribution and contact points.

You can see the list of distribution and contact points in this document including the locations:

There is no distribution point at Altenberg on the Czech side as the part of the road is without toll so you need to choose one of the distribution points from the list.

In addition, when you want to see where the distribution/contact poins are, go to

Click on it a few times until you can see the green/red squares which are the distribution points. Please make sure you check in the pdf document later there is no maintenance etc. as it is not visible on the map. You have to check the PDF document and anything in yellow is where the maintenance is and the services are not available.

To get the device, the user always have to show original registration certificate, copies are not accepted.
The deposit is 2468 CZK and the minimum sum to top up the device is 1000 CZK.
You can pay by payment card, in cash or by fleet card that is accepted.
The list of cards that are accepted is at:

Should you have any further questions, please contact our Customer Service Line.

Yours sincerely

Forgot to say we really enjoyed the Czech Repulic and wouldn't hesitate to go back. There is some great cycling if that is your passion, and fuel and LPG is very chaep. Be careful with the LPG as it has a high content of butane so not much use in the UK in the winter.

From that map it looks relatively easy to just drive on non-toll roads. Probably take longer but we are not in a rush. Just need to be extra careful when navigating.

A broad sweep on how it works would be useful👍
Again I mentioned in a previous thread this is the sole reason I want to go to 3.5t, it’s a minefield with different countries requiring different methods of payment, it’s about time it was harmonised or we’re gonna end up with either a windscreen full of stickers and/or box’s 🤬🤬
