Bit concerned we will lose access to the dirt road alongside Stonehenge. Byway12 runs SSW from Larkhill and crosses the A303 just to the west of Stonehenge. The proposed tunnel will move the A303 further south and will be invisible, and hopefully inaudible, from the stones. The existing A303 will be converted to a bridleway/footpath/cycle track. It appears we will no longer have vehicle access to Byway 12 from the south, the alternate route via Larkhill Army Camp is circuitous and very bumpy over the unmade road.

I am hoping the military will still want access to that biway.

quite a few years now, and loving every minute..
why the heck does the new road need to be a tunnel with all the associated costs anyway?

With more appeals and the finding of great crested newts this project is going to take many years, so the 303 is safe for the forseable future.

Why do you need access to the byway? If it leads to anything surely they will retain access. If it doesn't maybe they will make it into a cycle track like the old a road a circular route around Stonehenge once the traffic is diverted could be very popular.

Somebody who makes the decision has shares in a tunneling machine.
Look at Stonehenge on Google Earth, the track is obvious, zoom in to see how many vans use that track.

Intending to stop there this w/e. Was going in via Larkhill anyway as I don't fancy slowing down on the A303 as everybody seems to be looking at Stonehenge 😒

The access from the A303 is very risky in a Motorhome the ground has some huge bumps that you will ground out on. When we stopped for the night we used the access via Larkhill.

You suprise me, we come in from the south as the track from the north is longer and much rougher.
