We have AA cover via our TSB account for van and car, we have only used this once for a 'blow out'.
We have a long trip to Germany and Austria planned in summer and need breakdown cover for that period, any info and advice very welcome.. We have used various overseas cover in the last 20 yrs,
it now appears many of the companies are not interested in short contracts.
Best Regards Mac

I noticed recently when looking at Eurotunnel prices, that breakdown cover is one of the 'extras' they offer. Not noticed it before; but there again we have Fiat 'CamperAssist' for another year on the base vehicle plus breakdown cover included in the motor insurance for the van anyway.

We had a flat last year in deepest France, Pete managed to re-inflate the tyre but we'd damaged the actual wheel and felt it really should be replaced to be on the safe side so we drove to the nearest 'CamperAssist' franchised Fiat dealer (Commercials, MoHos and Cars) who got the wheel for the next day, we had agreed with them if they found the tyre was damaged when they removed it that we'd have a new one - it wasn't so they put it back on the new wheel. Sorted. Tyres aren't covered anyway but in any case the garage spoke English (well one chap did anyway LOL) and could have recovered us if we'd needed that. We'd have had to speak to the vehicle insurance breakdown service if we wanted them to cough up or assist, we were fortunate. We've also had a slow puncture in the old van, but that was re-inflatable and driveable too, and the 'petrol' garage told us where the nearest tyre place was. Turned out there was a ruddy girt bolt through the tyre - so again - cough up and look happy.

Stuff happens - and you need to be able to fund it 'on the spot' even if you have breakdown cover.

RAC just pay for the number of days ( might need to be a member already) works out cheaper if only 1 trip & not too long.

Probably work out cheaper to change your insurance, Comfort for example only charge £58 for 365 day continental cover as a policy extra.
Or open a Nationwide Flex Plus bank account includes European breakdown cover, charges are £10 month but pays 3% interest on up to £2500 in the account.

Still hunting for the best value overseas cover, we are insured via Caravan Guard and Breakdown AA via TSB. Just had a quote from Caravan Guard one month Continental Breakdown/Recovery £83.50 Does that sound reasonable in this present market?

As one off trip cover goes probably not a bad price, but it is an expensive way of getting cover. Is there any chance you are likely to go abroad again within the year, if so well worth looking at the other options.
