As I understand it Schaudt's own solar controller, which I bought and fitted to my Electrobloc, boosts the voltage of the input (at the expense of the current of course) so as to make it high enough to properly charge the batteries in lower light conditions.

I just bought this kit:

The kit seems really good but having now fitted it all there were lots of things in the kit I couldn't use (not the fault of the supplier, just how it is with kits) Had I measured more accurately before ordering I would have realised that I had no room for the plastic feet supplied and my cable run being short I did not need all the cable, and so on. I would buy bits separately next time.
