Tried replacing our ailing and ageing TomTom Europe 3rd edition with an identical unit from eBay, then other half switched it on to set it up and decided to plug it into the 12v socket while the engine was running - something inside went phut and SatNav II is now buggered. Fortunately it was only a weekend trip and we're both capable of navigating in France with road maps.

However, I'm now in the market for a new one. I need:

1. A TomTom so I can transfer good stuff from the old one. No other makes need apply, not interested. Suggest Garmin and I'll simply stick my fingers in my ears and go "Lalalala I can't hear you".
2. Just something that'll get me from A to B in UK and Europe and doesn't have to be the latest model as long as I can still buy it new - I don't want fancy subscription features or traffic alerts, only a talking map that I pay for once and maybe update the maps in 5 years' time if at all.
3. Assuming 1 and 2 above are fulfilled, I'd prefer a MH friendly unit, but it'll be used in a car too, so I don't want to be driving extra car miles simply because there's a low bridge somewhere.

All TomTom suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Halfords seem to have some good deals on Tom Tom Europe Sat Navs that includes lifetime map updates. I have the Garmin camper 760 Sat nav which is supposed to navigate a route using your vehicle dimensions, however this is not fool proof and has tried to send me down some very bad roads.

More than toes wet now!
OK, I'll ask a stoopit question.
It's not just an inline fuse in the 12v plug that's blown, is it?

It's probably more cost effective to buy a new Sat nav rather than updating an old one if you don't have free updates

Does anyone have a working TomTom Go 950 Live?
The one containing Europe/USA & Canada Maps with the 4GB Memory?
