Driving down to Devon September and thinking of making first stop Lady Heyes as daughter coming with us and loves shops. My question is any parts of the park to avoid as we get a choice of pitch, we have 3 dogs so probably would like near dog walk but that is near camping field and also a number of pitches down there are marked unavailable, could they be statics ?

The unavailable pitches are seasonal caravan pitches, rather than statics.
There aren't any parts of the site to avoid, particularly, so you can just decide according to proximity to the facilities. :)

The site is not that big so never far from the dog walk, but I would say some pitches are more level than others for a motorhome but I don't know which are best, might be worth calling them as they are usually very helpfull.

I can tell you that pitch 51 has a distinct downwards slope away from the road & it's not quite level side to side either.

If daughter is old enough to be into shopping rather than 'playing', then avoid being too near the play area. Can be noisy. No reason why not - it's there for the kids to enjoy themselves, but you may prefer it to be at a distance!

As already stated some pitches slope in multiple directions, shops are mainly craft type shops in run down buildings, bar opens and closes at a wim, excellent modern toilets and showers and reasonable dog walk, site is a long walk into Frodsham along a very busy road.
If you want some serious shopping try the Caravan Club site at Cheshire Oaks five minutes walk to loads of shops, dog walk only small though, or the rhoodee car park at Chester.

Thanks maxsdad, the antique type shops probably appeal more to me, not fussed about bar, it's not our usual type site we usually go quiet and middle of nowhere.:)

We were at Lady Heyes for New Year. Toilet block has to be seen to be believed but other than that, not impressed by the rest. As said before, run down old barns and a bar that really looks a dive from outside (don't know about inside, I wasn't tempted to go in). Worst of all was the fact that there appeared to be three huge Hobby caravans parked together with families that looked and spoke like travellers (although I doubt travellers would pay for such a site)

Thanks, suppose New Year would have been busy, schools will be back when we go plus it's weekdays. Slightly worried about it now but it'll only be for 2 days and the antique shops appeal.(y)

Errr, they are more 'second-hand' than 'antique' in the main, I'd say. But there again, perhaps it's cos I'm picky LOL

Don't mind secondhand, couldn't afford genuine antiques anyway. I go to my local house clearance yard and usually pick up something for a couple of quid, I'm not proud. If the Frodsham brewery shop there and open I'll be happy.

Still haven't made up my mind but somewhere near there with a walk into a village would do just as well.:)

Don't live far away and certainly would not think of Lady Hayes as a shopping destination, for shopping the site near Cheshire Oaks would be much more interesting.

Thanks Carol, because we are taking daughter we thought something on site or village nearby to keep her occupied by browsing few unusual or specialised shops. I hate large shopping centres was agoraphobic for years so won't go near them or large town centres, if I want to spend time with her, small is the way to go.:)(y)

If you are there midweek and kids are back at school i think the site would be quite quiet. Prob cost around 5/6 pounds in a taxi to go dosn into Frodsham, quite nice down there.

Thanks PaulyP, went to Delemere Forest campsite a 3 or 4 years ago with trailer tent and visited Frodsham. Wonder if shops will open weekdays if quieter. Now thinking of making it our second stop and arriving the earliest we can and stay just one night. Not convinced daughter will manage 10 days with us so might have to take her to warrington station to travel back to Edinburgh.
