Hi, Everyone

We have just returned from our 500-mile round trip to Delfin Designs, near Blandford in Dorset. First of all, we would like to say thank you to Goffer, Rangitira, Dave Newell lvs and The Hutchies for recommending them.

We stayed at a Caravan & Camping Site site – ‘Tarrant Crawford Farm’ – listed on page 454 of the new C&CC sites book. It’s only half a mile from the workshop, so we arrived on the Sunday evening and were able to be at Delfin Designs at 9am on Monday.

We are so pleased with the work that Derek and his team did for us. We were booked in for their special gear linkage modification on our 1994 Compass Calypso/Talbot Express. When we drove into the workshop the first thing that Derek said, after introducing himself, was "Have you had a new cam belt fitted?" With some surprise, we said, "Yes, we have." "Thought so, Derek replied, "the mechanic has over-tightened it, so you need to take it back to him."

Over the phone we had been quoted £300 all-in for the gear linkage. In addition to this and FREE OF CHARGE Derek fitted a second-hand engine mounting to replace the one we had been having so much trouble with (see our previous post), a second-hand clutch cable as the one we had was faulty, adjusted the tickover because the engine had been idling too fast and he even checked our water heater, which wasn’t working on gas (turns out we didn’t have enough water in the tank). We could not believe his generosity. He said he would have also adjusted the cam belt for us but would have to charge for that and he felt that our local mechanic should put that right for nothing.

Derek Finlay is a saint. We cannot praise him highly enough. The difference he has made to our motorhome is amazing, So, if you have a Talbot Express, Fiat Ducato or Citroen C25 and need repairs or spares then Delfin Designs is the place to go to. Many thanks for the offer of a manual, Bob & Val, but we have the CD version, which we bought on eBay. Good of you to think of us.

They went under a couple of years ago, there was someone else tho that was mentioned at the time, but can't remember.

Shame really What derek didn't know about the Talbot you could write on a pinhead. His restored MGs were also well sought after.
