I have two 80 w solar panels on the roof of the van. So in theory on the equator mid day no cloud I should in theory get 160w MAX, with me so far?

Right, my meter, has a different slant on life...

See below.

I may be wrong Hilda but i think that is around 1.5 amp @ 230v which is about right on a cloudy day!

I have two 80 watt panels and the best i have had is 9 amp in full sun when it is directly overhead!

Do you get any readings at night and/or does the reading fluctuate if the sun goes behind a cloud? The reason for asking is to check the meter is wired correctly. It might be the readings are showing current coming from the battery not what the sun is putting in to it. A near 18A charging current could also be frying the batteries. Also, what is switched on in the MH to be drawing this current?

I have no idea, DBK. I may take it to my repair guy and get it checked out, another cockup by Mr X...

With my regulator thingy you can reset it.

I am definitely no expert apart from fitting panels to two of my self builds, but I suspect your controller needs to have you push some buttons to get it to give you correct readings.

I have to set mine to the correct voltage and type of battery etc.

Do you have instructions?

I would have thought 14 amp max from 160 watt
We have 280 watt one old 100 watt and a new 180 watt panels
And even in morocco it never went above 18 amp in full sun Even though calcs say it should do 23 amps
I think:whistle:

We have 400w and I have never seen it above about 20A max in normal European sunshine. This is 240w (20x12) . Perhaps I should clean the panels.
