Camping Fusina is across the water. Easy ferry across to Venice. We got a 3 day ticket campsite fine though didn't spend much time there. Venice is expensive.

Stayed at Camping Venetia Village at Mestre about 10 minutes by bus from just outside camp site. ACSI rate applied €16 at time of our visit in June. Excellent site, great toilet facilities and nice restaurant/bar.

We stayed at Camping Union on Lido de Jeselo, lovely site right on the Adriatic, sandy beaches, nice and warm in summer.

There is a bus service to the ferry terminal and you can then get the ferry across to venice. you can also walk to the terminal or cycle on cycleway.

After 8 days of being forced by my wife to drink white Italian wine and eat Italian Ice Cream we moved to Lake Garda for another 5 days right by the lake edge.

We travelled down through France, then through the Frejus tunnel and across Northern Italy to our campsite.

Last time we went to Venice the route was Amneville Aire (nr Metz), then Europa Park in Germany (theme park), into Switzerland via Basel, followed by either Lucerne (campsite near Lido), or Interlaken, then Lake Garda. We've stopped at the MH-only site at Torbole and on a couple of sites just south of Lazise, and they're all fine. Lazise's weekly market is an impressive affair which fills the whole town centre. Good theme parks beside Garda if you like that sort of thing.

For Venice what we usually do is stop at an Adriatic coast campsite across the lagoon near Ca' Savio, cycle the relatively short distance along the bike track to the ferry port at Punta Sabbioni, then get the ferry to San Marco, which is just under an hour. There's also aire-style MH parking along the seafront at Punta Sabbioni but it's very hot and dusty in summer and there's no shade. The advantage of commuting is you can spend the evening on the beach after a day's trekking round the sights.

Venice is lovely - we've been three times already and we want to go again.

True, but it does not have to be excessively so. If you wine and dine in the "red hot" tourist spots then you will pay the price, e.g 2x coffees in St Marks Sq €19.50....... gave him €20, told him, "keep the change", just seemed the thing to do.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

But seriously, wander the back alleys and piazzas and eat and drink where the locals eat and prices are not so bad. Even if it does prove to be expensive........... worth every penny, fabulous place !

Enjoy, regards Bryan

Pick pockets are rife as are the opportunity grab and run thieves..

Someone tried to grab and run with my camera but I had the neck strap wrapped around my wrist.. It was a determined effort though and I ended up scrabbling around a bit .. then the battery compartment came open and the bloody batteries fell on the floor. At that point the thief legged it

Speaking to a chap later he had been 'dipped' too. They got a few Euros only thank goodness.. the bulk or his wonga being tucked away in a money belt

We stayed at a site about 5 miles from the causeway on to the island and drove the camper over there. Parked on the bus park .. Believe it cost 3 € for the day

We always go via Luxembourg, Germany and Austria avoiding the greedy Swiss completely

Vignette in Switzerland is ( was ) 29€ agin 7 € in Austria.. And the camp sites Stelplatz always seem better in Germany and Austria than France and Switzerland too ( sites ar certainly cheaper !! )

And of course you can get all the way in to Italy without a single toll road to if you go via the Reschen Pass.. Beautiful road and beautiful views all the way :thumb:

Try This Perhaps

Hi,

Our favourite for visiting Venice is - Camping International, Lido De Jesolo. Link Removed. Bus stop right outside to take you to Punta Sabbioni for ferries to Venice but very close, walkable to Jesolo.

Where??????

We were there for 7 days June /July this year and saw no such incidents and we spent 10/12 hours a day wandering the streets and alleys. You may have been unfortunate but I do not believe that Venice is any more "rife" than any other major tourist centre. Such sweeping generalisations about any location, are unfair, unhelpful and certainly, in our case, unsubstantiated.

Happy to return there again....... anytime !

Regards, Bryan

I should point out that there is one heart stopping moment, you hit an island and seem to be going on the motorway but one exit further on the non-motorway road runs along side it.

A good look on google maps will show the way you dodge round the motorways.

When you cross into Italy, it's quite a shock, they speak German.

Camping Sage Muhler, just one of the best.

If going from France to Italy, take the Mont Genevre pass. It is scenic and free, unlike the Frejus tunnel which is expensive and boring.
There is an enormous aire at Mont genevre, something like 250 places with electric, though expensive at €10 a night. Good value in the winter though, although the pass is likely to be closed.

Stunning places.

Repeat........ stunning prices!!!

All the "freebies " are not an attraction for us and the quoted prices, other than low season are out of our league.

Van + 2 on standard pitch

Low season,..................... €28.50
Mid Season ..................... €47.00
High Season ................... €61.50

To these prices, no doubt, tourist tax and the iniquitous VAT will be added........ stunning places or not Brian....... these are stunning prices !!:RollEyes::RollEyes:

Regards, Bryan
