Ok heres one for all the techies, which I am definately not.::bigsmile:

Fitting 2 new 110Ah batts tomorrow and a Ctek charger. Next to my battery box is a 600watt invertor whic I use regularly and it works really well. My question is can I run the invertor to generate 240volt then use that to charge the same batteries that are driving the invertor. This would save starting the genny or finding a mains hook up and would be a perfect solution no noise no fuel. I guess the answers are either;

The invertor would overheat
The charging process through the invertor will take out more power than it puts in
Or something else a layman like me has'nt thought of.

I need to ask because it keeps going around in my head and in my simplistic way of looking at things it should work, but I bet it won't.:thumb::thumb:

Sorry Rory, in laymans terms.....dont be daft :ROFLMAO:

the inverter will take out many times what the charger will put back in just to run the charger

Thats what I thought John but would'nt it be great if it worked::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

certainly would Rory :thumb:

i once had thoughts of a starter motor, powering an alternator, charging the battery used to run the starter motor.

but as Chris said...perpetual motion doesnt work like that

Scientifically the energy lost would be through heat, via conversion, resitance in wiring .....etc.

Nearly solved all our energy problems there:winky:
Government would rake in any savings as a free energy tax though:cry:

So by that reckoning, if I fitted a big electric fan on the back of my boat and powered it through the inverter which was also powering the battery charger so that it would never go flat.............

...............Would the fan blow the sails and get the boat in motion on a still day?

Come on then chris, answer that one.

Don't Listen to em Rory, I thought it sounded a great idea,

Been trying it out on mine for the last two hours. will let you know how it goes, only problem is none of the electrics are working so I cant see how much charge ive got left in the batteries. :winky:

Based on the thread on Humor, this thread has had me laughing more than any comedy sketch I've seen in years, seriously, especially pappajohns 'don't be daft'.

All these years scientists have been looking for perpetual motion and a funster cracks it with a simple idea.........brilliant.....:ROFLMAO:
