Does anyone know if a google nest will work from a modified sine wave inverter ?
And what damage will it do if I plug in and try it, gift so I don't really want to fry it.
It has a fixed 230v plug on it so running from a usb doesn't look like an option.
TIA

The Google Nest Hub has a mains plug and ac-dc adapter as one thing and is hard wired to the hub.
Not looking easy to adapt to USB power.
If you're technical enough to re-wire an out of warranty Nest maybe there's a write up/video for the conversion online.

I`ll have a look

Edit : couldn`t find anything but interestingly some of the Google nest minis featured in videos had mini usb connections

This or something similar would probably do the job with a suitable jack Screenshot_20210101-232519.png

Just had a look, the lead to it does end in a jack that plugs in, but from Itsmcb info it`s not going to work from a 5v usb.
So I`m still wondering if it will work from my modified sine wave inverter ?

What Google product do you have?
The mains plug/adaptor combo will have details of its input AC voltage & output DC voltage written on it.

The brief look I had suggests 15w but at what voltage I don't know.
But like powering a laptop, it makes no sense taking 12v up to 230v to know it down to 16 or 17v

Maybe not USB powered but 12v cig socket - this sort of thing?

EDIT: sorry, my reply was right but meant for the OP ;)

15watts suggests you've a Google Nest Hub like me 🤷‍♂️
Later I can look at my Nest Hub - maybe even stick a DMM onto the mini jack

I don’t know the answer but our Dyson and Apple computer both wouldn’t work on a modified sine inverter but no harm was caused in trying them.

There’s different wattages for other Nest branded Google things but I knew my Nest was 15w

My Google Nest Hub ac adapter is putting out 13.98v unloaded 👍🏻
The Nest hub is the device that’s like a photo frame.

The link I put in post 9 above lists all the Google devices and expands to show the power requirements. Some will work from a usb socket, most wont. I'm still not positive which device the OP has 🤔

Yep, that’s where we’re at. Needing to know the OP’s actual device.
There’s several devices with the Nest name.
And two versions of the Nest Hub - one with a 15w adapter, the other with a 30w one.

Sorry, been distracted today ..........

I have the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen. There is a 230v plug and fixed lead with a jack plug on the end so no micro usb into the device.
The cigarette adapter linked by Langtoftlad might be the answer ? if it can increase 12v to 24v without issues or overheating. It would seem to make more sense than running through the inverter ?
Thanks all for input (y)

The Google nest MINI 2nd generation is different again. The transformer/plug outputs 14v @ 1.1amps.

  • AC adapter
  • Model G1030
  • Input: 100-240V-0.4A
  • 50-60Hz
  • Output: 14V=1.1A
  • LPS

I wonder since it works on 14v whether it would work on 12.7/12.8v (ish) direct from a hab battery ??
